The festival experience. Orange Stage at Roskilde Festival.

Building a festival experience

As a guest it can be hard to grasp that it all started out as a field of grass just a few short weeks before. Every year we take part in building the festival experience from the ground up.

Where it all begins

The grass is freshly cut and markers have been planted in the warm Summer soil. Between the markers with our numbers on we will built our restaurants over the next 10 days.

Feast has been a partner of Roskilde Festival since 2012, but it is still a huge job and demands full focus from all of us.

During the construction phase we are typically between 10-12 people on site. Both employees and volunteers take part.

Building Chippy

Our setup is built around two reconfigured 20″ containers. The sides open up to reveal two fully furnished industrial kitchens including drains, electricity, hygienic surfaces, vents… The works.

With these two containers as our foundation we assemble the rest of the construction. The construction carry the large front and the roof between the containers. It’s designed to give our guests a roof over their heads during the transaction.

Around this construction we establish the rest of our setup: Tables and benches out front, the Chippy-sign, our bar to the left of the restaurant and covered seating underneath the octopus.

In our backstage area we have a refrigerated container, a tent for our staff and volunteers to have a break, room for storage and an area for sorting waste into fractions.

FAQ

What is on the menu?

Chippy is located in a camping area where the guests often live for four or five days before the music starts on Orange Stage. That’s why we have a pretty wide menu you can revisit a few times. We are open for business most hours of the day. We serve Eggs Benedict for breakfast from 08:00 in the morning and close around 04:00 at night.

How do you volunteer with Feast?

Just click this link and enter your details in the form. It’s as simple as that!

What if it rains?

Chippy is open from Saturday before the festival until it closes 8 days later. It will always rain at some point during the week – and it is usually welcome. The rain keeps the dust down and people and tents usually dry out eventually.

Do you have employees at Feast during the festival?

During the festival our team includes over 100 volunteers and a number of paid staff. We have carpenters, artists and kitchen staff working for us throughout the festival. They will usually be in a supervising role. If you are interested in working for us, then please click this link and send us a message. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
